Koryphaios

Koryphaios, remembered also as the Whispering Lattice and the Voice in the Gates, is a being from an earlier, poorly understood age of Veylantia. More a presence than a person, Koryphaios is said to to know every path ever walked. Through Koryphaios, Varaxis the Gateforger created the Infinite Road and bound distant lands together with silver rings and, it is said, laid paths across even the void between stars. Yet the Voice was never benevolent: each use of the Infinite Road subtly diminished those who walked it, leaving travelers altered, hollowed, and marked by strange dreams and borrowed thoughts. In time, the leaders of that distant age sealed the Infinite Road and tried to erase memory of it from history. Yet Koryphaios endures, buried beneath the world and whispering still, its Eye a lingering symbol and its warning preserved in an old saying: never trust a road whose voice you cannot see.
